2017 Xmas Drinks and 35th Anniversary invite

35 Years of SPE in South Australia
Prior to 1982, those in petroleum engineering had only the monthly meetings of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Australia (PESA), which started in the 1960s, to obtain their “fix” of technical presentations to increase their industry and professional knowledge. Some leading lights in petroleum engineering in 1982 saw a good reason to introduce SPE to Australia, and the first Committee Meeting was held on 25 May, 1982 in Adelaide. Since those times, SPE has grown in Australia to 5 local Sections and over 2500 members. SPE has organised many conferences and workshops over the years to collect, disseminate and exchange technical knowledge concerning the exploration, development and production of oil and gas resources. This will be a celebration of those 35 years.

Tom Gouldie
Tom was born and raised in Texas, and after a few years working in the US was seconded to work as a petroleum engineer in Perth in 1981. Since then, he has served on over 30 SPE committees locally, regionally and internationally, and has received more SPE international awards than any other Australian for his decades of volunteer effort on behalf of SPE. Tom has worked as a petroleum engineer in Australia for over 36 years and continues to serve the industry, SPE and Engineers Australia following his retirement from Santos in 2012.
